Buffet Dinner

For a few days, Bam was talking non-stop about our upcoming trip to a buffet for dinner on Saturday night.  I didn't quite know what to expect, but I had visions of American buffets in my head.  Man, was I way off!

First of all, I will fully admit that I probably had no right eating at this restaurant.  I mean, the travel doctor spent some time talking with me about the types of foods and importance of preparation when I met with him and, well, I basically broke all of the rules.

In addition, I could imagine this place being my dad's biggest double-edge sword because, on one hand the food looked and tasted amazing but, on the other hand, my dad is the most particular person I know in terms of food sanitation and refrigeration guidelines.

Here is the deal.  One selecting a table, they put coal/fire filled buckets in a hole at the center of the table and placed a metal skillet-like thing on top.  This had a place to grill food items on top and boil them in soup broth on the bottom.  You can see the pitcher of broth in the picture below, which was continuously poured as it boiled off.

Then, we went to select our meat-- which was all uncooked.

We placed the items on the grill and ate off it when finished.   We were also able to put noodles and veggies (onions, carrots, corn, etc) in the soup to cook.

There was also a large array of sauces and condiments.  For example, I had a small bowl of garlic, some peppers and some hot sauce.  You can see a few of the small bowls filled with dipping sauces and condiments in the picture below.

I was a bit nervous at first, but then decided to go for it!  This is a picture of my empty plate and a piece of grilled pineapple dipped in garlic- yummy!

Finally, we finished the meal with bowls of coconut milk ice cream with a bit of condensed milk on top-- delicious!

A fun meal!!!
