Tree signs

Throughout the campus, you will find a large variety of trees.  One of Dr. Tony's ideas to help with learning English is to put the names of the trees (in English) on signs in front of the tree.  I think he originally thought I could help with the translations.... But my knowledge on trees is limited to your basic North American varieties of maple, oak, elm, birch and pine and, since there are none of those here, I was of little help.

Over the last few weeks, with the help of the Internet, the names of the trees have slowly appeared around campus.  I can now identify rubber, papaya, coconut, palm and a type of olive.

The students have been cutting the boards, painting the signs and planting them near the trees.

I cannot help but think that my grandpa would have been super excited about this project.  I feel I owe it to him to learn as many of the tree names as possible.

I am also going to use the trees for a conversation activity in class...

This is a ...... tree.

It is a out .... feet tall.

I gives fruit in .....

First, we need to discuss meters into feet and learn the months of the year, but I think it would be a fun activity, and it was all Dr. Tony's idea!
