Kru Pok

Kru Pok is the accountancy teacher at the college.  She just graduated last year from a university in Bangkok, and we have become friends during my stay here at the college.

Today, after class, she took Bam and I on a tour of her small village, which is located about 20 minutes from the school campus.

On the way there, we crossed a bridge over a beautiful river.  Below you can see V shaped docking areas for boats, used mostly when the river is higher and the current is stronger.

Then we went to a Buddhist library, used mostly by monks.  It was closed for the weekend.  However, we saw some secondary students inside the gates and asked them if there was another entrance.  They pointed to the fence... so we jumped it, with me asking "police?" with visions of that Thai prison I toured a few years ago in my head.  They assured me there were no police in the area, only private security... no problem!  I said "Sawadee Ka" to the students, which they thought was hilarious and we all became friends.  The library grounds were so beautiful and it was worth the fence climb!

Next we drove to a lovely wat (temple).  It is a place local people visit to ask for wishes or pray for favors.  It is also tucked next to the river.  Again, it was a wonderful place to stop!

Our last stop was Kru Pok's family's house.  It was lovely!  In addition to the house being beautiful, it was surrounded by one of the biggest garden's I've ever seen --- I was excited to see a few of my favorites on the branch and vine!
