Skylab

Thailand is known for the tuk tuk--- a small, open vehicle often used for taxi services.  I promise to do a post about tuk tuks when I get to Krabi or Chiang Mai, where they are very common.

However, in Nakhon Phanom, they are known for the skylab.  It is a vehicle that looks like a motorcycle in the front, with a driver riding it, but has benches for passengers or room for pulling goods in the back.  The back area is in a slight uphill position, due to the height of the front compared to the back.  I was told that they are not comfortable for older passengers, but are very popular for young people.

Many of are decorated in really bright colors with shiny, flashing stickers or lights added for more bling-- with electric blue as the most common color choice.

I would have to say, if I lived here, I would for sure be a owner of a flashy and fun skylab!
