Teacher Appreciation Day

In Thailand, each school has a teacher appreciation day to show respect and honor their teachers.  At BSP College of Technology the ceremony happened today, and I was honored at a teacher.  This meant that, after several practice runs, I was seated at the front the students with Dr. Achara and the students brought flower arrangements to the front.  After honoring the King and Buddha, we were presented with arrangement after arrangement, which were all made by the students out of fruit, leaves and flowers.  The were simply beautiful!

A part of the ceremony included a pledge/prayer to continue to do their best and honor their teachers.

At the end, I was asked to say a few works.  I spoke about continued hard work over time and the rewards this can bring.

Overall, it was a fantastic honor and I feel lucky to have been a part of this experience.

It also got me thinking about the teacher appreciation I am shown in the United States.  At North Shore, we are always given special treats for teacher appreciation week.  However, they always come from the parents, while in Thailand the appreciation is shown by the students instead.  Not better or worse, but a notable difference.
